I enjoy wearing Western clothes now: Vidya Balan

Actor Vidya Balan who is currently going full throttle with promotions of her film Shaadi Ke Side Effects will be seen dressed in Western attire after a long time.

The actor had received a lot of flak for her attire in Hey Babyy, where she was mostly dressed in Western clothes.

Strangely after Heyy Babyy (2007) and Kismat Connection (2008), Vidya was generally seen in Indian avatar in films such as Paa (2009), Ishqiya (2010), No One Killed Jessica (2011), The Dirty Picture (2011), Kahaani (2012) and Ghanchakkar (2013). Even if her character was not dressed in Indian in some, they were essentially Indian in spirit.
When Vidya had done Heyy Babbyy and Kismat Connection, not only was she criticised for her clothes on screen but also for trying to be someone she was not. Vidya had in her umpteen interviews accepted the charge.

About dressing Vidya in Westerns for Shaadi Ke Side Affects, costume designer Jayati Bose says, "Vidya had no apprehensions at all. The clothes were designed, keeping in mind today's modern day working woman who later decides to be a full-time homemaker after an unplanned pregnancy."
Vidya on her parts avers, "My costume designer Jayati Bose and I were aware of the fact that there had been a lot of criticism in the past. But Jayati understood the character and did things accordingly. I give her full credit for the way she has made me look in this film and the results have been very good."

Bollywood changing, curvy damsels are in

Curvy actors are in vogue. The likes of Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi are the antithesis of the anorexic look, the so-called size-zero, once a fad in filmdom. The game changers have, by the sheer craft of their acting, managed to turn any perceived disadvantages of their figures into cinematic assets.

The list also includes successful names like Vidya Balan and Parineeti Chopra, who happily flaunt their curvaceousness and rule the roost.

Here's a list of successful voluptuous B-Town beauties:

Sonakshi Sinha

She weighed over 90 kg before she joined the film industry and shed 30 kg for her debut movie "Dabangg" with Salman Khan. Even after weight loss, she is not size zero. She has more or less maintained the same size and the broad framed girl is moving upwards on the success ladder, thanks to her acting skills. Unperturbed by the comments about her weight, the 26-year-old feels her films' success is enough to stop the wagging tongues.

Post her debut, she won appreciation for "Rowdy Rathore" and "Dabangg 2". In 2013, she had four releases and she is not even close to stopping. Her next will be Prabhudheva's "Action Jackson", which also stars Ajay Devgn, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Yami Gautam.

Vidya Balan

When frequently asked about her weight, Vidya once wondered if it had become a national issue! But not taking note of what others have to say about her body, the actress carries herself with confidence and has a swelling fan following, thanks to her talent. Versatility is her forte and her acting prowess never goes unnoticed. In fact, she liberally flaunted her curves in the 2011 "The Dirty Picture" and the film fetched her a National Award for best actress for playing sex siren Silk Smitha.

She will soon be seen opposite Farhan Akhtar in "Shaadi Ke Side Effects". "Bobby Jasoos" is another project that's keeping her busy at the moment.

Huma Qureshi

Daughter of restaurateur Saleem Qureshi, Huma is a self-proclaimed foodie. She is not interested in losing weight, but believes in staying fit. She also feels that her weight shouldn't be a roadblock in her Bollywood career. Quite true! After her impressive debut in "Gangs of Wasseypur", she is moving up on the success ladder. Pretty and talented, Huma recently won appreciation for her work in "Dedh Ishqiya".

Parineeti Chopra

Often tagged as "bubbly" and "livewire", the cousin of small-framed star Priyanka Chopra is far from being skinny. If she carries her role with ease, the "Ishaqzaade" star flaunts everything - from lehenga to off-shouldered outfit to peplum dress to a simple tee with jeans - with elan. She too is focussed on her acting abilities as well as her looks. Parineeti may no longer be the chubby girl of "Ladies vs Ricky Bahl", but she is far from being scrawny. In her forthcoming film "Hasee Toh Phasee", you can still spot the curves.

Sunny Leone

The Indo-Canadian adult movie star-turned actor, who made her Hindi movie debut with "Jism 2" in 2012, has been accepted with her curvy figure. She also topped the imagery downloads category in an annual survey. Sunny has proved that to don something as comfortable as summer-friendly dresses or minimal like bikini, you don't need to reduce to size zero. She is gradually making her name in the Hindi film industry. If she focussed on her acting skills in "Jackpot", with "Ragini MMS", she wants to spook the audiences.
