Ind vs Pak preview: Battle of arch-rivals in World T20

After appetising 'starters' featuring the lower-rung teams and warm-up games, the 'main course' of the World Twenty20 begins here on Friday with a high-profile clash between India and Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla International Stadium.
Players of both teams have tried to downplay the encounter that fans all over the world look forward to, but they admit that a match between the traditional rivals is more intense than other games and that it brings out the best in them.

It is being said that it's going to be a clash between India's formidable batting line-up and Pakistan's potent and varied bowling attack. But taking into account all the factors, both teams would start on equal footing as there is little to separate them, except that the history heavily favours India. For instance, both teams won one warm-up game and lost one, going into the 'derby'. Crucially, India won their second game just two days before the Pakistan encounter and that too quite convincingly, against England on Wednesday. M.S. Dhoni's team had earlier lost to Sri Lanka in a close finish.

Pakistan, on the other hand, beat New Zealand with one ball to spare in their first warm-up tie, but lost badly to South Africa as their batting came apart, losing by eight wickets with 36 balls left to be bowled.
However, experts believe that these results wouldn't have much of a bearing when the first ball is bowled at 7.30 pm (Dhaka time) as players would forget the past and concentrate on the job at hand. For India, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina had a good outing against England and the half-centuries that they hammered would give them confidence in a game that the whole of India wants the team to win. Raina particularly looks in good nick as he scored in both warm-up games.

Yuvraj Singh scored in the first game, but interestingly wasn't given a bowl in either match. Still, the batting line-up looks settled, with the only question mark being against Ajinkya Rahane's selection as he failed to score against Sri Lanka and didn't get a chance to bat against England. Although Rahane has played seven T20 Internationals, crucially the last one came in December 2012.

Dhoni said on Thursday that Rahane was being considered, but the manner in which he said that was not convincing. On the bowling front, he admitted it was an area of concern.

India have an enviable record against Pakistan in ICC tournaments, including the first World T20 in 2007 when India beat Pakistan twice on their way to winning the title. But, quite interestingly, the two teams have played only five T20s since 2007, and India have won four of them - a nice, feel-good statistic that Dhoni and his teammates would like to see before the explosive clash.

Rameez expects a battle of nerves

It will be a battle between two equals when India and Pakistan clash in a World T20 match here on Friday, but the team that keeps its nerves would win, says former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja.
While Rameez picked Ravindra Jadeja as key to India's gameplan and Suresh Raina as a match-winner, he said that Yuvraj Singh would have to regain form quickly. "I think it's pretty even stevens. Pakistan's strength obviously is bowling, but after giving away two-three wickets they have the propensity to bounce back also - as a batting unit. And, it's obviously going to be a battle of nerves. That's a given," Rameez told MAIL TODAY.

"Also, Pakistan's form against India in the recent Asia Cup was good, even though that was 50-over format. So, they start this game with a slight advantage." Rameez, 51, is impressed with the way Raina batted in the two warm-up games. "Raina's form is critical and Virat Kohli doesn't seem to fail at all. Raina's form will warm the hearts of the Indian team management.

He can play T20 cricket like anybody else. He is a match-winner as he's got big shots and he can work the singles," the former opener from Lahore said.

"The only question mark is over Yuvraj's form. He didn't look too convincing against England." Rameez said Jadeja would be crucial to captain MS Dhoni's strategy. "If you compare India's bowling to their batting, it appears to be their weak link. And if Jadeja doesn't have a great day with the ball, India will struggle," he said.

Saif doesn't like taking the ramp, says Kareena Kapoor Khan

Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is a regular feature as the show-stopper at fashion shows, has said that her husband, actor Saif Ali Khan, stays away from ramp walk as he does not like it much.

"He is now in Chandigarh. He is working. We (Saif and I) walked for Manish once. He doesn't like taking the ramp too much. He is quite excited when I walk the ramp year after year," Kareena told PTI.

Kareena walked the ramp on March 16 as a show stopper for the grand finale of the Lakme Fashion Week. This time she walked for designer Rajesh Pratap Singh.

"It is great that Lakme has chosen me as their brand ambassador. For the last five years, I've walked the ramp for them for the grand finale. It is synergy that is synonymous with Kareena now. I wait year after year for them to come with fantastic designers, this time they had Rajesh Pratap Singh," she said.

"It is great to walk the ramp as I am an actor and not a model. But it is one night in the year when I feel I am in Paris," she added.

Kareena said she does not feel nervous any longer while walking the ramp. "Whatever I do, I do with the utmost passion," she added.

Talking about what she was wearing, Kareena says, "It is very futuristic and dramatic. But it is very comfortable to wear, I can walk the ramp freely."

She said her style lies in the fact that she is confident and never follows leading trends but lives life on her terms. "I am most comfortable in track pants and T-shirts. My wardrobe is casual and that is the way I am. But it is fun to dress up once in a while," she added.

LFW, which began on March 12, ended on March 16.

What is troubling Angelina Jolie nowadays?

Actress Jennifer Aniston has got an offer to release a tell-all book with details of the past and the news is reportedly making Angelina Jolie nervous.
Aniston's ex-husband Brad Pitt and Jolie are now partners.

Jolie and Pitt grew close to each other while filming the 2005 film "Mr & Mrs Smith", during which time the latter was married to Aniston.

"Angelina's worked hard to build up her image as a humanitarian and separate herself from the public outcry when she got together with Brad. She felt the whole 'Team Jen' and 'Team Ange' thing had finally died a death and that the perception of her being a husband stealer was in the past, but then she heard about the book offer," a source told Now magazine, reports contactmusic.com.

Aniston, now engaged to Justin Theroux, knows that the part where she will recount the deatils of her breakup with Pitt will be tough to write, said the source.

"If Jen does sign a book deal, she knows the chapter on Brad and Ange will be the hardest for her to write - but it will also be the one everyone will be after. Jen doesn't want to spark any new rows, but there's so much history involved that it's inevitable," the source added.

Missing Malaysia jet LIVE updates: Search for missing Malaysian plane widened to Andaman Sea

Search widened to Andaman Sea
Authorities today said a missing Malaysian plane with 239 people aboard may have changed course before losing contact, as multinational search operations were widened to hundreds of kilometres from the original radius to cover the Andaman Sea.

"The RMAF does not rule out the possibility that the aircraft made turn-back before it disappeared from the radar and this is why the search and rescue operation had been widened to a larger area to include waters off Penang," Malaysia's Air Force (RMAF) chief General Rodzali Daud said.

"This resulted in the search and rescue operations being widened to the vicinity of the waters (off the west coast of Malaysia)," he said.

The Beijing-bound Boeing 777-200 plane had 227 passengers on board, including five Indians and one Indian-origin Canadian, and 12 crew members.

The search for the missing plane entered the fifth day, as 34 planes, 40 ships and teams from ten countries are scouring the waters on the plane's flight path and beyond to find it.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has said it is scaling back search operations in its waters. "We've decided to temporarily suspend some search and rescue activities, pending information from Malaysia," deputy minister of transport Pham Quy Tieu said, adding that boats were still searching the area.

Confusion over plane's path

Malaysia's air force chief has denied saying military radar tracked a missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner over the Strait of Malacca, adding to the mystery surrounding the fate of flight MH370, which vanished on Saturday with 239 people aboard.

A massive air and sea search now in its fifth day has failed to find any trace of the Boeing 777, and the last 24 hours have seen conflicting statements and reports over what may have happened after it lost contact with air traffic controllers.

Malaysia's Berita Harian newspaper on Tuesday quoted Air Force chief Rodzali Daud as saying the plane was last detected by military radar at the northern end of the Strait of Malacca at 2.40 a.m. on Saturday, hundreds of kilometres off course.

"I wish to state that I did not make any such statements," Rodzali said in a statement on Wednesday. The air force chief said he had merely repeated that military radar tracking suggested the plane might have turned back.

A senior military officer who had been briefed on the investigation told Reuters on Tuesday that the aircraft had made a detour to the west after communications with civilian authorities ended.

"It changed course after Kota Bharu and took a lower altitude. It made it into the Malacca Strait," the officer said.

Malaysian authorities have said previously that flight MH370 disappeared around 1.30 a.m., roughly midway between Malaysia's east coast town of Kota Bharu and southern Vietnam, about an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing.

The Strait of Malacca, one of the world's busiest shipping channels, runs along Malaysia's west coast, while Kota Bharu is on the northeast coast.

After the comments from the officer, a non-military source familiar with the investigations said the reported detour was one of several theories and was being checked.

If the plane had made such a detour it would undermine the theory that it suffered a sudden, catastrophic mechanical failure, as it would mean it flew at least 500 km (350 miles) after its last contact with air traffic control.

A spokesman for the Malaysian prime minister's office said on Wednesday he had not been informed by the military of evidence showing the plane had recrossed the Malay Peninsula to reach the Malacca Strait.

"The people I checked with were not aware of that," spokesman Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad told Reuters.
