Google Unlocked Galaxy S4 Features Stock Android Jelly Bean

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is now available in the U.S on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint with Verizon lagging behind with an expected release date of May 23. A Google Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 was rumored to be announced during the Google I/O keynote, and it looks like that is exactly what Google had planned for today. 

Google has announced they’ll soon be selling a stock Android Jelly Bean version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 that is fully unlocked and will have LTE support for both AT&T and T-Mobile. The Galaxy S4 Google will be selling will come with 16GB of internal memory, will be bootloader unlocked and will receive prompt system updates. All of this will certainly come at an inflated price as when compared to the Nexus 4 as the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be sold for $649 and will be available on Google Play starting June 26.

It’s interesting to see Google outright accept how popular the Samsung Galaxy S brand has become over the years, especially with its latest Galaxy S4. Customers who want a Nexus-like experience, but don’t necessarily want a Nexus, will certainly pay Google’s asking price in order to get full support from the company in terms of its ability to receive system updates as soon as the company issues them.

BlackBerry launches Q5, a QWERTY phone running BB10, targetted at countries like India

BlackBerry has announced a new phone at its BlackBerry Live event. The handset – dubbed the Q5 – is a mid-end smartphone with a touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard. The handset is aimed towards emerging markets. It will be available in red, white, black and pink colour options.

The BlackBerry Q5 features a classic BlackBerry keyboard with discrete keys that has been re-engineered and designed to help you type fast, accurately and with the least amount of effort. Plus with Instant Action shortcuts you can type to perform tasks faster. The BlackBerry Q5 smartphone gives you the best of both worlds - a classic QWERTY keyboard for optimized communications and a 3.1-inch touchscreen for all the rest.

The new BlackBerry Q5 smartphone will be available in selected markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia (including the Asia Pacific region), and Latin America, with expected availability beginning in July. 

According to earlier rumours, the display of the Q5 is said have a resolution of 720 x 720 pixels. That makes it a Q10 twin as far as display is concerned. On the back will be a 5 megapixel camera along with what looks like an LED flash. Even though there’s no mention of the resolution of the front-facing camera, it is quite evident from leaked pictures that there will be one. The Q5 is said to have 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a non-removable 1800 mAh battery.

Going by the leaked pictures, the BlackBerry Q5 seems to have a very glossy finish. The glossy back and front look like fingerprint magnets and there’s very little to distinguish it from older BlackBerry staples such as phones in the Curve series in terms of form factor. All the colour variants of the phone will come with high-gloss finish, which is sure to have polarised opinion. The traditional BlackBerry QWERTY pad is present as ever and the keys are laid out in an island fashion a la notebook keyboards.

BlackBerry has also announced at the event that its operating system – BlackBerry 10 – now has more than 1,20,000 apps. This is quite a figure for such a young operating system. BB10 was launched back in January with great fanfare alongside the BlackBerry flagship device – the Z10.

Pinterest updates iOS, Android apps with push notifications feature

It is update time again on Pinterest, and improvements have been doled out to both, Android and iOS platforms.

On the updated Pinterest app, Android and iOS users will be able to see who's commented on their pin or mentioned them, on their mobile devices. Also included in the update are push notifications that will tell users what's happening without them having to launch the app.

Pinners can now mention people from their phone. How do you go about doing it? Hit @ and start typing the name of the person you want to mention. Pick the name and that contact will be notified that you have mentioned them.

The update also brings search items suggestions as you type on your mobile. Pinners can also view recent searches that they have made from other places - say, you've looked up a recipe from your computer, you can do the same search while at the store using your mobile. If you want, you can delete these searches from your settings.

Just last month, Pinterest updated its iOS app to allow users to discover new pins. The previous update had also brought a "people who pinned this also pinned" feature, using which, one can find newer pins that might be of interest to them.

Another interesting update was the ability to edit one's Pinterest profile right from the phone. In addition to this, the app on the iPad even received a design refresh, giving users a close-up view of their pins. Pinterest says that with the new iPad look, users can enjoy the same, simplified design that they do on the web.

Indian engineers invent ‘anti-rape’ underwear

Anti-rape underwear which delivers a 3,800 kilovolt shock to any would-be attacker has been created by a team of Indian engineering students.
After disabling the assailant, the undergarment has been designed to automatically send a text message to police or family members containing the GPS location of the attempted crime.

Pressure sensors on the garment, sewn in around the bust area, detect unwanted force and trigger the powerful shock. It can deliver up to 82 electric shocks, more than enough to disable any attacker.
Manisha Mohan, who helped develop the product, told The Times of India: 'The lingerie with global positioning system, global system for mobile communications and also pressure sensors is capable of sending shock waves of 3,800 kV as well as alerts to parents and police.
'A person trying to molest a girl will get the shock of his life the moment pressure sensors get activated, and the GPS and GSM modules would send an SMS (to the Indian emergency number) as well as to parents of the girl'.
Details of the device, which were published on the Indian technology website Techpedia, show how the electric shock circuit board, is 'placed near the bosom' after a survey found that attackers usually grab a woman in that area as they initiate a rape attack.
Ms Mohan added: 'Studying in a convent girls school, we were always taught to be good to everyone around and bear a cheerful smile.
'After stepping into the real, cruel world we realized that our smile could not last for long as the threat to our purity and integrity always lingered on.
'Since the law makers take ages to come up with just laws and even after that, women are unsafe. Hence, we have initiated the idea of self‐defense which protects the women from domestic, social and workplace harassment.'
India has seen a spate of rapes in recent months including the gang rape and beating of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student who later died.
That case sparked huge protests and widespread condemnation of the government and judiciary for their failure to protect women.
Last month a Swiss Woman was attacked and a British tourist told how she was forced to jump out of her hotel window when a man attempted to attack her.
The surge in violence against women is believed to be having a serious effect on the country's tourism industry.
A recent study found that that in the last three months, the number of foreigners travelling to India has fallen by 25 per cent with the number of female tourists down by 35 per cent.

Woman kicked off plane for singing Whitney Houston song -- non-stop

Everyone has had the experience of sitting next to an annoying person on a long plane flight. 

But has anything ever been as bad as a woman singing Whitney Houston's classic song, "I Will Always Love You"? Keep in mind, the woman didn't just sing this love anthem once -- she sang it repeatedly, to the point where the plane was forced to make an emergency landing.

The American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York City was diverted to an emergency landing, where law enforcement personnel escorted the woman away. Frighteningly, the woman was still singing her ode to Whitney as she exited the aircraft. There is no word as to whether the woman was drunk or otherwise incapacitated at the time.

Although it's fortunate that there is a video to record this insanity, the person behind the footage might want to stay quiet. There are plenty of "no cameras" messages heard throughout the short recording -- whoever took the video was risking an arrest too!

Why was the woman singing Whitney Houston? Why wouldn't she stop? Would this be your choice if you were to sing something over and over again on an airplane? The answers to these questions may indeed be terrifying.

During his tenure at Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier has worked to consistently evolve the brand’s age-old legacy of exquisitely executed handcraft. To complement the house’s iconic woven leathers, he’s experimented with hand-painted textiles, bricolaged patch-works, and artfully haphazard pleating details yielding stunning results.

Resort ’14 proved no exception, as Maier presented an assortment that was at once perfectly suited for a mid-January jaunt to the French Caribbean, and chock-full of masterful technique. Crisp poplin fabrics informed the behavior of his 50′s-silhouette skirts and culotte/Bermuda short hybrids, while airy slips in painterly textural-prints were cut to hover at knee length, finally giving rest to the maxi dress (Real Housewives be damned).

Styling was simple and to the point; pick a frock, pair it with a brogue or raffia-spectatored loafer, add an ombre stained bag–and go! How refreshingly simple!
