Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Sunday visited the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai with Daisy Shah, his Jai Ho costar. The actor apparently wanted to thank God after his latest film entered the Rs.100-crore club.
The much-awaited film, which released on January 24, has not drawn amazing response either from the critics or the viewers. Jai Ho, directed by Salman's brother Sohail Khan, was expected to breach the Rs.100-crore mark at the box office within two days of its release.
The internet seems to have no qualms about hosting the recently released Salman Khan starrer 'Jai Ho'.
According to reports, a pirated version of the film - 2 hours 17 minutes in all - was released online within just days of its theatrical release. It seems a Dubai-based user uploaded the pirated print of Jai Ho, that released on January 24, on January 28 on Youtube.
Quite recently the rumour mills were buzzing with news of Shah Rukh Khan attending a special screening of arch rival Salman Khan's Jai Ho.
Or at least this is what an excited fan would have us believe, a fan who started the rumours.
Salman Khan's film "Jai Ho" has received mixed reactions at the box-office and the superstar feels that the response at the theatres and the collections garnered are not "matching up". "This time we are also confused because the reactions inside the theatres and the collections are not matching up. So it's a very strange thing," the 48-year-old said here Monday at the launch of Gixxer bikes by Suzuki. However, Salman believes that their effort at doing something different from their regular stuff might be a reason for people not thronging to the theatres. 
"We have done something different, may be people were expecting something like 'Dabangg', 'Ready' like time pass film to enjoy. Some must have understood that 'Jai Ho' is not that kind of film, this is a serious film with a social message," Salman said. The 48-year-old says that he is the only person to be blamed for any kind of debacle. "I will only say that the credit or the blame for my film should come to me and not to anybody else. Perhaps I have failed in bringing in the people," he said. Directed by his brother Sohail Khan, "Jai Ho" has managed to collect approximately Rs. 61 crore in the opening weekend of it's release.
Jai Ho managed a three-day collection of around Rs.58.5 crore despite opening on the Republic Day weekend. With the film releasing on a mammoth scale across 5,000 screens, the trade analysts had expected the movie to cross the 100-crore mark in two days. Early trends indicate Jai Ho will stru- ggle to earn Rs.100 crore in about a week and chances of the film matching the monstrous 500- crore global intake of Dhoom 3 are dim. Jai Ho opened on a disappointing note on Friday, collecting Rs.17.5 crore. The scene was worse on day two (Rs.16 crore). Sunday saw ticket sales shoot up (Rs.25 crore) but early reports on Monday collections were hardly encouraging. 
Occupancy has been far below estimates. The film has seen around 80 per cent occupancy in single screens. The percentage for multiplexes stands at over 50. Salman's latest also fails to match his own record. The Rs.17.5-crore opening day seems insignificant compared to the Rs.32.9 crore firstday earning that Ek Tha Tiger co- starring Katrina Kaif did in 2012. Jai Ho may scrape through to become a hit and ensure some profits for its makers but the trade is disappointed as something special was expected from a Salman starrer releasing after well over a year since the superstar last hit the marquee with Dabangg 2. While most feel the lack of originality led to the film's disappointing show, others point at publicity overkill.
A section of Muslim clerics have appealed the community to boycott actor Salman Khan's movies for praising Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. The clerics have also appealed people to boycott the products which were endorsed by the actor. While speaking to the Times of India, Maulana Ejaz Kashmiri, a member of the All India Ulema Council and an imam at a mosque in Bhendi Bazaar said, "Salman's statement that there is no need for Modi to say sorry for the 2002 riots is provocative and deplorable. It has hurt the sentiments of Muslims and the community should boycott the actor's present and future films and the products he endorses unless he apologises." The actor has been at the receiving end from the clerics after he was seen flying kites with the Gujarat CM during a promotional programme for his latest film 'Jai Ho' in Gujarat. While praising Modi as a 'great man' Salman had said there was no need for the CM to apologise for the 2002 riots as the judiciary had given him a clean chit. Earlier Salman also drew angry reactions from the same community for his performance at the Samajwadi Party's extravagant Saifai Festival at a time when Muzaffarnagar riots victims were still struggling the chilling cold in relief camps.
Superstar Salman Khan today said he was interested in larger-than-life films and not in "small-scale" ones. Salman, whose potboilers 'Wanted', 'Dabangg', 'Bodyguard', 'Ek Tha Tiger' did well at Box Office, has also acted in films like 'Phir Milenge' among others. He will be doing a special song in his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri's home production film ' Oh Teri'. "As an actor, I don't want to do such kind of (small) films. If someone asks me to do such kind of films again then I might do a guest appearance in it. These are beautiful films but one will watch it on DVD or on TV but not go to theatre," Salman said at the trailer launch of 'Oh Teri'. 
The actor said he was happy doing larger-than-life stuff. "I will continue to do such films", he added. The trailer of 'Oh Teri' will be played along with Salman's 'Jai Ho' releasing today. "It (Oh Teri) is a lovely film. I liked the humour... the plot of this film. It is a relevant film in today's time", the actor said. 'Oh Teri', produced by Atul Agnihotri, stars Pulkit Samrat and Sarah Jane Dias in the lead. Salman, known for launching newcomers like Katrina Kaif, Zarine Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Daisy Shah to name a few, has given a break to actor Bilal. "I believe in giving chance to newcomers but sometimes my choices have gone wrong too", he quipped.
The stage is set for Salman Khan's "Jai Ho", his first release of the year. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh is confident that it will cross the Rs.300-crore-mark while Amod Mehra says though a bumper opening is assured, reaching Rs.200 crore could be "a Herculean task". Directed by Salman's brother Sohail, the film that focuses on corruption will hit more than 5,000 screens Friday. Producer Vashu Bhagnani, who still remembers "the stupendous opening" that his film with Salman "Biwi No.1" got, is confident that "'Jai Ho' would definitely open very well". "Salman has the full public support. His ardent fan-base would definitely go see the film. It should cross the 300-crore mark specially seeing the number of screens it's being released on," he added. 
In the last couple of years, Salman has hardly failed to impress the audiences and as a result most of his films such as "Dabangg", "Ek Tha Tiger" and "Dabangg 2" became blockbusters. "I saw the film at a trial. Both the pre and post interval halves have that jolt that makes you sit up and watch when you are least expecting any kind of upheaval. That is the USP. Salman's presence is 'ekdum dhamaakedar'," said another trade expert who doesn't want to be named. "My verdict. It'd be bigger than 'Ek Tha Tiger', but not as big as 'Dabangg'. Eros would find it hard to recover the money they paid Sohail for the film," he added. Taran Adarsh: "'Jai Ho' should open very, very well, thanks to Salman's star power and also his absence from the screen for an entire year. The craze for the film is building up with each passing day. As far as making Rs.300 crore goes, that would depend entirely on the strength of the content." Amod Mehra: "As Salman is enjoying such a huge fan-following, a bumper opening is assured. However, the promos and music are dull. Reaching Rs.200 crore may prove to be a Herculean task."
Newcomer Daisy Shah, who is making her debut as Salman Khan's leading lady in forthcoming film "Jai Ho", describes her co-star as an "emotional person", who is often misunderstood as being "impulsive". 
"He is a very wonderful human being and people think that he is very impulsive, and that he gets very angry. I would say that it's not his anger, but his love, which he wants to express because he is a very emotional person," the 28-year-old told reporters Saturday at a function here. Daisy was a background dancer until Salman spotted her in South Africa.
Superstar Salman Khan's young fans, who form a sizeable slice of his mammoth fan-following, may need to be accompanied by adults to be able to see his latest film "Jai Ho". The film has been reportedly passed by the Central Board of Film Certification with a U/A certificate and a number of cuts. "Actually, this is quite an unusual situation for a Salman-starrer. His films are usually passed with a 'U' certificate with minimum or no cuts. But 'Jai Ho' is a political thriller about a common man's successful attempt to foil an assassination bid against a chief minister," said a source. "There are many very hard-hitting dialogues against corruption in present-day Indian politics. This is Salman's first film with a strong political statement," added the source. 
It is said that the censor board asked for some of Salman's tirade against corrupt politicians and their dubious politics to be toned down or beeped out. "There were no abusive dialogues. Salman doesn't abuse on screen. But there are several references to current politics that could have made real-life politicians uncomfortable. These have gone. Also, some seconds from a few action scenes that were found to be lengthy," said the source. With the cuts and the 'U/A' certificate, "Jai Ho" becomes Salman's first censor-restricted film. The film will come out January 24.
The Star Guild Awards 2014, held last evening, turned out to be quite a starry affair considering Bollywood's biggest stars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan kept their differences aside and decided to hug it out! You read that right. According to our reporter at the venue, all eyes were trained on the two sides of the court - Salman on the stage (since he was hosting), and Shah Rukh Khan walking in towards the seating area. Once SRK was seated, Salman couldn't resist saying, "Shah Rukh kya ho raha hai?" 
He then went on to congratulate Shah Rukh on the success of Chennai Express. Shah Rukh wasn't far behind either in this game of who's-the-most-courteous, and immediately responded with a wave, acknowledging Salman's compliment. 
But Salman didn't stop there. He even asked Shah Rukh to say Jai Ho, in keeping with the former's upcoming movie with the same title. And soon enough, sweet Shah Rukh raises his hand in response. 
And as the evening progressed, Salman even paused to say that he preferred 'performing' to 'hosting' adding, "Mujhe nahi pata tha main itna lamba segment host karunga. Ye sab inhone shuru kiya, Shah Rukh saab ne". 
Soon enough, the evening came to point where Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh's 'Chennai Express' co-star presented him with the Entertainer of the Year award. This was one one of Bollywood's will-stop-your-moment when the two bigger than bigger stars, on the stage together at the time, decided to hug each other. And hug they did, much to the amazement and surprise of the crowd. Shah Rukh, while accepting the award, said it 'feels special to get this award in the company of Salman who is one of the greatest entertainers the country has seen'. 
This is the second hug the two shared, after their much-talked-about first hug at Congress leader Baba Siddique's Iftar party post a fight the two allegedly had at Salman's then girlfriend Katrina Kaif's party in 2008. Bollywood's new entrant Daisy Shah, who is debuting with Salman Khan in Jai Ho, says she was asked to tone up a bit before starting work on the movie. 
"I was asked to tone down my body before staring for the film. I was not asked to lose weight as such, but I was asked to tone a bit. I was not plump, but I was always on the healthier side and toning up your body brings a huge difference in your appearance," Daisy, also a choreographer, told IANS. Praising her superstar co-star Salman, she said: "It's always a dream for everyone to work with Salman and I had an opportunity to work with him. He is very supportive and very protective about his co-stars." If given a chance, she said, "I would like to romance with Salman again and again in all my films." Daisy has earlier worked in the southern film industry, and she believes there is a difference in the way the Mumbai film industry functions. "The working pattern is different in both the industries," she said.
Superstar Salman Khan, who has been promoting Swedish-Greek actress Elli Avram ever since she entered the reality show "Bigg Boss 7" house, says he may consider her for a film. Salman was the host of "Bigg Boss 7", which ended recently. 
When asked whether Elli will be seen with him on the big screen, Salman said: "You will see Elli when a director or producer casts her. We have Elli in mind for sure ... I will say that straight out." Elli made her Bollywood debut with "Mickey Virus". However, Salman clarifies that nobody can take undue advantage of his friendship to get a film. He said: "It's very clear that if I see something in a person only then that person will get to work with me." "Earlier when I used to drink, they would think they will come and do their 'jugaad', but nothing used to work. "If I feel that a person deserves it, only then it will happen or else nothing doing. If somebody makes my head turn twice that means the girl has something about her," he added.
